Tuesday Draper

9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Danceology, 112 W 13100 S, Draper, Utah 84020

Welcome to Epic Day!  We are here to help each student to learn and grow.   The themed lessons are History-based and include STEM Activities, Science, Social Studies, Art, Math and Language Arts.  We focus on engaging, interactive, project-based lessons that promote critical thinking and discussion.  We are teaching Utah State standards with Hands-On Fun.  The students are grouped in classes youngest to oldest, Aspen, Birch, Cedar and Oak, with similar-aged peers so that they can gain valuable friendships and social opportunities.  Our Dive Deeper activities are available for you to extend the learning at home.

Please be on time so your child doesn’t miss our leadership meeting. Leadership is when your child’s teacher celebrates student accomplishments and recognizes birthdays. We will also delve into the Canyon Grove Guideposts together. Leadership lessons develop the concepts in the guideposts using learning games, songs, biographies, quotations,  discussions, mindfulness exercises, Growth Mindset principles, and movement. Our students explore each of the guideposts and examine how they can apply them in their lives. We wrap up the year with our final guidepost, Anything is Possible, to launch them into a summer of discovery and fun.

RECESS:  12:15 am-12:30 pm Students play first and then eat so they do not rush through eating to get to their recess activities.

LUNCH:  12:30 am-12:45 pm  Please send your child with a lunch from home that can be eaten within the given time frame and doesn’t require heating. Please let them know that they will be eating what you send with them in their OWN lunch.    There is no bartering lunch items.

Please send your student to school with a water bottle, home lunch, and backpack each day.

Your student also has the option of attending Innovations and Discovery Days.

Site Coordinator – Heather Buckles

Ms Buckles studied Elementary Education at BYU and later got her Montessori certification so she could operate and teach at her own school. Heather has worked in several Montessori schools and has done other jobs such as help her husband produce trade shows! She is excited to join our CGA team as a collaborative teacher!

Ms Buckles has 4 beautiful sons, all in their 20’s, and 4 beautiful grandchildren! I love spending as much time as I can with them. She also loves to read and play word games, walk and bike and everyone close to her gets a special, homemade quilt!

Aspen Teacher – Kelsey Stirland

Mrs Stirland  has known she wanted to be a teacher all her life! She had the opportunity to live in China teaching English to 2nd graders and has been teaching ever since! She absolutely loves being a teacher and her main goal is for her students to be confident and excited about learning!

Mrs Stirland is from Las Vegas but now lives in Herriman with her husband, her new baby boy and her Goldendoodle! She is an aunt to her 11 nieces and nephews and loves traveling with family, especially to Disneyland! She also loves cheering on the Utes and the Jazz! Outside of teaching, she works as a bridal hair and makeup artist in the summers and loves that she gets to pursue multiple passions!

Birch Teacher – Ellery Meade

Hello! I’m Miss Ellery, I am from a small town in CA named Oakhurst and went to school in Santa Barbara. I graduated from UCSB with a Bachelor’s in Sociology and minors in Education and Psychology. I moved to Utah last fall and worked in a pre-k classroom. Outside of teaching, I love to be outside hiking, camping, running, backpacking, skiing, and playing games with friends. I also love to bake, paint, and read! I’m always looking for a good book recommendation.

This will be my first year working at Canyon Grove and I am so excited. I love working with students and families to help them grow and find ways to love learning!

Cedar Teacher – Ana Ramirez

Ms Ramirez recently moved from California in the fall of 2021 and has enjoyed her time here in Utah.  She recently graduated from Cal State Fullerton, CA and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Elementary teacher. She has been working with children for 6 years, including infants all the way to 6th grade. Ms Ramirez was also co-teaching at Santa Ana College, CA as a math tutor for 2 years. She truly enjoys working with all age groups and her goal has been to focus more on K-6. Even Though she have just started my journey at Canyon Grove, she has truly enjoyed every minute of it. In her free time I enjoy watching movies, reading, hiking/ going outdoors (especially the beautiful scenery in Utah).

Oak Teacher – Amber Jensen

I am Mrs. Jensen and I grew up in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. I originally came to Utah for school at Dixie State University. While at Dixie I studied Elementary Education and was on the track and field team there as well. Some things about myself: I just got married June 15, 2023, I love hikes that lead to a waterfall, I love camping, I enjoy exercising, and my favorite animal is a giraffe. Creating a welcoming classroom where the students are excited to come back and learn is something I am passionate about. This is my second year at CGA and I am so excited to see what it has in store!

Teachers serve as a guide and support throughout the education process. Families meet with their teacher regularly to discuss student as they progress toward their goals.  Please keep in mind that this communication with your teacher is essential and a requirement for participation in this program. Please show that you value our program by having a truly effective conversation about the academic progress of your student with your teacher.

At the beginning of the school year, or at the end of the previous year, you will create an individualized Student Education Plan (SEP) with your teacher. Your student’s SEP will outline the curriculum your student will be using and your goals for the school year. In addition you will meet regularly with your teacher to collaborate on student academic growth and course completion.  Evidence of student learning can also be uploaded into our school software to show progress through their power standards.  This is an easy way for both parent and student to see their accomplishments.

Canyon Grove Academy has a common dress code. The intent of the common dress code is to minimize distractions in the learning environment, promote a sense of community among students, and increase campus safety and security.   To keep it simple we have a Canyon Grove Academy T-shirt and sweatshirt available for purchase.  This T-shirt and sweatshirt can be worn with jeans in good repair, skirts, leggings, pants, etc. We also want all toes to stay safe! Shoes must cover the entire foot and be worn in and outside the school. Students should not wear hats inside the school, but they can wear hats outside for warmth. CGA T-shirt and sweatshirt are worn by our students at all our school-sponsored activities such as Epic, Discovery, Innovations, field trips, and events.  Call the school for more information.
