Tuesday Pleasant Grove

9:00 am – 3:15 pm

Canyon Grove Academy, 588 West 3300 North, Pleasant Grove, Utah 84062

Our multi-age classes are small classes of around 18 students. The students are grouped youngest to oldest in a class with similar-aged peers with a tree name: Aspen, Birch, Cedar and Oak. The themed lessons are History-based and include STEM Activities, Science, Social Studies, Art and Literature studies.  We focus on engaging, interactive, project-based lessons that promote critical thinking and discussion. We are teaching Utah State standards with Hands-On Fun.

Educational Specialist – Barb Kapple

Welcome to Canyon Grove Academy! I’m Mrs. Kapple and I will be your Educational Specialist at Canyon Grove Academy, Pleasant Grove, on Tuesdays. Can’t wait to meet you. We are going to have an awesome year of growing and learning together.

Years past, I have had a lot of fun teaching Second and Fourth Grade Students. They learned to be respectful, responsible, and ready and achieved many, if not all their goals. It is a personal goal of mine to make a difference in every student’s life to where that student will make a difference in someone else’s life.

Growing up, I have had the wonderful opportunity to travel around Europe and various states in the U.S.A. I have also been to the Middle East-Israel. So, I have seen a lot and love to share from various cultures. Besides traveling, I love my family and my cat Maxx. A few of my favorite things to do are to read, to do different art projects, and design.

Collaborative Teacher

Hello! My name is Jami Woodward and I am a collaborative teacher at Canyon Grove Academy. I have my bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Utah State University and my master’s of education from Southern Utah University. I love learning new things and read whenever I can. I also enjoy riding my bike, going on walks, and going swimming. If I could choose a place to live, it would be on a warm beach somewhere but I would never get anything done, haha! I believe that education is a personal journey and I am so grateful I have the opportunity to help the CGA families reach their educational goals. I will be working in Pleasant Grove, South Jordan, and Springville.

Epic Day Aide- Aspen

Hi, I’m Makayla Stratford. I’m from Riverton, Utah. Some of my favorite things include cheering loud at football games, snow cones, interior design, and collecting anything to do with pineapples! I studied Early Childhood Education at UVU. I absolutely love working with kids and being here at Canyon Grove!

Epic Day Aide- Birch

Hello everyone! My name is Seth Harrison. I’m from Spanish Fork, Utah. This is my second year at Canyon Grove. I recently returned home from living in Japan and am excited to be teaching! I love dancing, singing, and anything to do with history.

PARENT MEETINGS AND STUDENT EDUCATION PLANS

Education Specialists serve as a guide and support throughout the education process. Families meet with their Educational Specialist regularly to discuss student as they progress toward their goals.  Please keep in mind that this communication with your ES is essential and a requirement for participation in this program. Please show that you value our program by having a truly effective conversation about the academic progress of your student with your Educational Specialist.

PARENT TOUCHPOINTS

At the beginning of the school year, you will create an individualized Student Education Plan (SEP) with your Education Specialist. Your student’s SEP will outline the curriculum your student will be using and your goals for the school year. In addition you will meet regularly with your ES to collaborate on student academic growth and course completion.

Common Dress

Canyon Grove Academy has a common dress code. The intent of the common dress code is to minimize distractions in the learning environment, promote a sense of community among students, and increase campus safety and security.   To keep it simple we have a Canyon Grove Academy T-shirt available for purchase.  Our fun T-shirt is worn by our students at all our school-sponsored activities such as Epic, Discovery, and field trips.  Ask your Educational Specialist for details.

Drop-Off

Morning Meeting: 9:00 am Students will meet in the classrooms upstairs. Please have students there on-time (which is between 8:45 – 9:00 am). Morning meeting is when your child’s Educational Specialist celebrates student accomplishments and recognizes birthdays. The ES will also build our culture of shared experiences by recognizing positive behavior and helping students take personal accountability for their own actions. We appreciate you bringing your student on time so they can be part of our awesome Canyon Grove team-building activities.

Please do not drop off your students earlier than 8:45.

Drop-off at the sidewalk on the east side of the building.  To do so, please drive straightforward when you enter the parking lot and follow the lanes around the curve to the front of the building.  Students should exit curbside only. Say your piece (or peace!) to them before you arrive so that you are not holding up the drop-off line with parental advice or with drawn-out farewells.

Recess

Recess: 11:20 am-11:40 am Recess is almost always held OUTDOORS, so please send your child dressed appropriately for the weather. Students play first and then eat so they do not rush through eating to get to the playground.

Lunch

Lunch:  11:40 am-12:00 pm Lunch is always a favorite time of the day for most students.

Home Lunch: Students will bring lunch from home. Please send your child with a lunch from home that can be eaten within the given time frame. Please let them know that they will be eating what you send with them in their OWN lunch.  🙂  There is no bartering lunch items.

Pick-Up

3:15-3:25 Curbside pick-up:  Please do not pull into the school parking lot until 3:15 since on-site students will be getting picked up from 3:00-3:15 and it bogs down the line. Please wait on the side of the street by the pond and then enter the school parking lot at 3:15. If you need to pick up your child early, you will need to come before 2:30 so that you miss the onsite pick-up window.

Students will be lined up where you dropped them off. Pull in the SAME direction as the drop-off procedure. This way about 10 cars can be in position, and once you have your child, you can easily pull out and the next car can pull in behind you.  Students can only be picked up from the sidewalk on the curbside, please do not encourage your student to walk through the parking lot to your car.

3:25-3:30 Inside pick-up If you aren’t there before 3:25 to pick-up, students will be taken back inside the building and will wait in the foyer. It is important for parents to call if they are going to be more than 10 minutes late.

Please ONLY be late if there is a true emergency.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Pick-up Authorization: If someone other than the parent/guardian is picking up, please notify the ES before pick-up.  Remind them to bring ID so we can verify who they are.
  • Note for Walking: If the student lives near the school and will be walking home, a note with parental permission must be on file in the office.
  • Attendance: If your student misses an Epic day please email your Educational Specialist to excuse absences.
