Board of Trustees

The Canyon Grove Academy Board is responsible to guide the school to fulfill our mission through our charter.  The Board is made up of appointed directors, an elected parent representative and non-voting school administrators.

Board meetings are typically the third Thursday of each month at 4:00 pm in the boardroom.  Parents, students, teachers and the public are welcome and encouraged to join us.  You can review the meeting agendas and minutes once they are posted online.

JAMES URE  Board Chair

As a co-founder of Williamsburg Learning, James is on a mission to transform education in the 21st century. He is inspiring a young generation of parents, teachers, and education leaders to prepare students to live meaningful lives and become principled leaders in the Information Age. James is a provocative speaker, published author, marathon runner, and education entrepreneur.

After earning an English degree, James graduated summa cum laude from South Texas College of Law with an emphasis in Constitutional Law. Rather than take the job in the high rise, James decided to partner with his best friend Nels Jensen. Together, they created Williamsburg Learning, a next-generation education model that combines the engagement of an exceptional brick-and-mortar classroom with the flexibility of online learning. James and Nels led development of The Williamsburg Curriculum, which blends great literature, critical thinking, a proprietary sequence of leadership courses, and the latest technologies. They also co-founded Williamsburg Adventures to guide students and educators in humanitarian and outdoor expeditions.

James lives in the magical desert of southern Utah with his wife Ange and their four children. He loves running, biking, climbing, literature, movies, rock concerts, yoga, and comedy nights with his nerdy friends. When he grows up he wants to run for office and promote meaningful education reforms.

LINDA BOWEN  Board Secretary

Linda Bowen has been actively involved in education since her oldest child started kindergarten.  After that first year of schooling, Linda realized how much her involvement would positively impact her children’s education.

Linda has had the experience of homeschooling each of her children for portions of their education. This helped her understand first hand that each child learns differently and that the opportunity for parents to choose the school and curriculum that’s best for their child is key to a child’s educational success.

As a former employee of Canyon Grove Academy, Linda has a unique perspective of staff, students and parents. She is excited to be part of the Canyon Grove Board to help the school continue on it’s path to offering the best education and learning environment possible for it’s students.

Linda is an active mother and grandmother and has been happily married to her husband Carlton for nearly 27 years. Linda enjoys water skiing, reading, biking the Murdock Trail and spending time with her family.

Policy Committee Member, Trustee at Large

Patrick Ditty is a native Californian and veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He is a father of six young children, who will attend Canyon Grove school in the coming years.

After leaving the Marine Corps Pat moved his family to Portland, Oregon to go back to school. It was there that he realized his enthusiasm for education. While working full time, going to school and raising a family, Patrick participated in a pilot program through the School of Business Administration to earn his business degree fully online. Pat and other students worked with the faculty and helped design a successful program that now serves roughly 300 students in Oregon.

During his time at Portland State Patrick was invited to participate in another pilot program through the School of Business which offered a certificate in Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation. While completing this program he designed a non-profit organization in order to help with the homeless population in Oregon. He also served as an ambassador for Social Entrepreneurs of Portland State and worker with Impact Entrepreneurs in order to help socially-minded startups design business plans.

Pat and his family moved to Utah in 2015 and in the spring of 2016, he graduated from Portland State University with honors earning a degree in Business Management and Leadership as well as a certificate in Social Entrepreneurship and innovation.

Pat is excited to once again be in a volunteer role that helps serve the community. He brings his drive, determination, and a never give up attitude to the Canyon Grove School Board. He believes that his experience in educational program design, as well as business design, will help Canyon Grove maintain its standard of excellence.
